About us

Historical Overview:

The initial Five Points West Merchants Alliance became incorporated in 2008 and forged business partnerships and growth. During the early years, residents began to flow to the suburbs, and businesses began to dwindle, thus the Merchant Alliance became inactive and ultimately dissolved.

Under the adoption of the Five Points West Framework Plan in 2015, the Five Points West Community Neighborhood Associations saw the need to resurrect the business community.  This group of community leaders networked with a small core group of former business leaders, and created a survey to gather data of interest.

The survey identified two initial areas of concern, safety, and cleanliness.  Monthly meetings were held at Lena’s East of Mississippi Diner.  This group began to grow, and became organized and incorporated as the 5 Points West Crossplex Business Alliance under a grant secured from the Community Foundation.

In 2011, the groundbreaking of the Five Points West Development under the leadership of Bob Nesbitt, Engel Realty birth the Comfort Inn Hotel & Suites, Starbucks, and Walgreen’s pharmacy.  A short time later, the opening of 3 Daughters Beauty Supply, Al Nails Spa, J-Wings, Domino’s Pizza and Hewitt’s Tax opened.  We welcomed the groundbreaking and opening of the new A G Gaston Boys and Girls Club.

In the Summer of 2022, the 5 Points West Crossplex Business Alliance, Inc. welcomed the opening of the new Birmingham Rapid Transit (BRT) station. As we prepared for the World Games opening ceremonies July 7, 2022, 5 Points West Crossplex Business Alliance, Inc. aka Business Alliance rebranded its logo to prepare for a new rebirth for the Five Points West commercial corridor.

All businesses within the Five Points West commercial corridor are invited to join the group, to create a new partnership, to embrace the growth of all businesses large and small to develop the overall community.

This business community is anchored by the multimillion-dollar Birmingham Crossplex Sports Venue. Our goal is to develop a world class 24-hour shopping and entertainment venues with dining options enjoyed by locals and visitors. Furthermore, to have transit options, but people prefer to walk from business to business and from their nearby homes into the district. Five Points West is the heart of a vibrant community enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
